An alien landing site, a magma vortex, a gravity hill, a visual illusion. These are just some of the theories of the Mystery Spot, a gravitational anomaly located in the redwood forest just outside of Santa Cruz.
Guests come from around the globe to experience the unexplained forces at work here.
Mystery Spot Theories
Discovered in 1939 by a group of surveyors, the Mystery Spot has stumped hundreds of thousands of visitors since opening in 1940. While no one has yet solved the gravitational mystery, many have speculated that aliens have buried metal cones in the earth as a guidance system for their spacecraft.
Others believe there is an actual spaceship buried in the ground. Additional explanations include a hole in the ozone layer, a magma vortex, carbon dioxide permeating the ground, and the highest dielectric bio-cosmic radiation found anywhere on the planet.
The Mystery Spot tour (a must do) is centered around the slanted mystery shack. The two-room wooden cabin is located uphill, and the peculiar gravitational shift can be felt during the short trek. A series of demonstrations aims to both fascinate and entertain visitors.
Before or after the tour, guests can enjoy a picturesque hike through the redwood forest, and a picnic in the shade of the majestic redwoods. Be sure to stop at the Mystery Spot Gift Shop to pick up a souvenir before heading back to Santa Cruz. For more information, visit, http://www.mysteryspot.com.
